Malaysia Officials Say Carrefour Intends To Sell 23 Stores In Malaysia

Mukhriz Mahathir, Vice Minister of trade, said on Monday that the French retail giant Carrefour plans to sell its Malaysia business department, after which there have been market reports that Carrefour is trying to sell its stores in Singapore and Thailand to withdraw from the South Asian market.


"We learned that Carrefour is considering divest the company's business units in some countries and its ultimate goal is to restructure overseas business assets," Mr. Moore said in an interview with Agence France-Presse on Monday.

In addition, Carrefour hopes to sell its 23 stores in Malaysia, while other large supermarket operators have shown strong interest in this.
